Paratus Namibia announced its continued sponsorship of the Paratus Namibian Cycle Classic, a highlight on the Namibian sporting calendar since its inception in 1999.
This year's event, organised by the Rotary Club Windhoek, takes place on Saturday 5 October (MTB races for beginners, intermediate and advanced cyclists across three distance categories as well as Kiddies Classic for toddlers and young children) and Sunday 6 October (road bike races, divided into four distance categories) and promises another round of competitive cycling and family-oriented fun. The Paratus Namibian Cycle Classic is recognised as one of Namibia’s premier outdoor recreational events and is a community service and fundraising initiative by the Rotary Club Windhoek. The proceeds from sponsorships and participant entry fees are dedicated to numerous community projects and charitable causes across Namibia.
Funds raised last year were donated to various initiatives and infrastructure projects in the Khomas and Kavango regions. Additionally, a garden project was initiated in the south and the construction of boys’ and girls’ toilets at a school hostel was funded.
Participants in the Cycle Classic can look forward to individual timing, finisher medals, leader boards, prizes and a fully supported course. Family entertainment and refreshment stations will be available throughout the event, making it a perfect outing for cycling enthusiasts and their families. All cycling races will start and end at the Doc Jubber sports grounds in Olympia, ensuring a central and accessible location for all participants and spectators.
“We are proud to support the Paratus Namibian Cycle Classic for the third consecutive year because it successfully combines sport with philanthropy,” says Andrew Hall, MD of Paratus Namibia. “This event is a beacon of sport and fitness and contributes significantly to social upliftment in Namibia. By partnering with the Rotary Club Windhoek, we aim to increase the positive impacts within the local community and encourage everyone to participate in this exciting event.”
Online registration opened on 14 June 2024 and close on 2 October. Participants can also register at the customer service counters of Pick n Pay branches nationwide.
