Simonis Storm dominates fourth WWP round
Simonis Storm men's and women's teams dominated the Nedbank Windhoek Pedal Power (WPP) Race Series Team Time Trials in Windhoek on Sunday.The races, with 27 female and 40 male cyclists, saw the Simonis Storm men’s team (Drikus Coetzee, Ingram Cuff, Gerhard Mans, Horst Newmann and Clinton Hilfiker) win their category by completing the 33 km distance in 40 minutes and 24 seconds, ahead of the Cymot Men A-Team (Kai Pritzen, Christian Janse van Rensburg, Hardus Nel, Gino Chiappini and Pierre Knoetze) who came second in 43:34.
Third place went to the FLM Men (Konrad Marais, Vernon Maresch, Des Doman, Marcel Suren and George Thiele) who crossed the finish line in 45:06.
In the ladies’ race, the Simonis Storm women’s team of Anri Krugel, Benita Windsch, Lelani Swart, Anneke Steenkamp and Maike Bochert clocked 48:56 to win the race ahead of Irene Steyn, Risa Dreyer, Silke Bean, Marion Schoenecke and Belinda van Rhyn from the MBM Ladies team, who clocked 50:35. Third spot went to the MSL Ladies team in 50:48, consisting of Genevieve Webber, Nicole Spangenberg, Monique Taylor and Marcelle Elloff.
Organiser Stephanus Feris hailed the event a success, saying the riders will accumulate points throughout the year, and the total scoring will determine which team wins the series. He added that they are looking forward to the fifth event, taking place on 20 August, before concluding the year with a race at a surprise location early in September.
Nedbank Namibia’s Selma Kaulinge said: “We are nearing the end of yet another successful season in the Nedbank Windhoek Pedal Power Race Series. So much has happened since we started this season in Dordabis earlier this year, and we are excited to see how the final will play out.”
The next race in the series takes place at Teufelsschlucht on Sunday (20 August).
