Victory for Alludio’s u/11 hockey girls

Alludio Academy’s u/11 outdoor hockey girls' team triumphed in the 2024 KSSR B League Championship. This achievement highlights the determination, dedication and sportsmanship of these young athletes, some of whom only started playing hockey this year.
Founded by Liezl Moller and Emma Cocklin, Alludio Academy is committed to creating a secure and supportive learning environment where children can develop at their own pace. This philosophy is reflected in the team’s performance throughout the hockey season. Despite facing significant challenges, including playing a crucial match without a goalie, these young girls continued to shine on the field, demonstrating resilience and teamwork beyond their years.
The final match against St. George’s was a nail-biter. At the blow of the final whistle, the score was tied at 0-0, pushing the teams into a tense shootout to determine the winner.
In a dramatic finish, Alludio’s team held their nerve and emerged victorious, securing the championship title.
Team spirit
In an display of dedication throughout the season, some players even returned to the field after hospital visits for hockey-related injuries, including stitched-up cuts to the head. Their commitment to the team and understanding that every player was essential truly set them apart.
Most of the u/11 girls also went above and beyond by stepping in to help the u/13 team on several occasions to ensure they had a full team, further demonstrating their dedication and team spirit.
“These girls showed true sportsmanship with no egos and just pure effort. We are so proud of them,” Cocklin said.
Coach Maretha expressed her hopes for the team’s future, stating, “We are hoping this win will secure our place as a team to be reckoned with. We are now aiming to secure sponsorships to assist in purchasing new goalie kits, two gazebos, and finding a dedicated field where we can train.”
The success of the u/11 outdoor hockey girls' team is a testament to the spirit of Alludio Academy, where students are encouraged to grow, excel, and overcome challenges both academically and athletically.
