Young Suren crushes at Friedenau MTB race
The curtain came down on the second Friedenau MTB Challenge outside Windhoek last Saturday with some thrilling performances and a fantastic surprise in the leading men’s race. The protagonists were junior cyclist Roger Suren (Team Mannie's Bike Mecca) and seasoned Anri Greeff (Team Hollard), who crossed the finish line first in the men's and women's divisions.
Suren, a rising star at the age of 17, reached the finish line in 2:26:28, claiming the win and earning his first victory this year for the Gravel & Dirt Series. His victory follows a second place earlier this year at the Otjiwa MTB, which was won by Konny Looser.
Danzel de Koe (Team Hollard) improved his result from last year's eighth position to second place, in 2:27:04, while Brandon Plaatjes (Team Mannie's Bike Mecca) rounded out the men’s podium with a time of 2:28:24.
Anri Greeff (Team Hollard) once again dominated the women's field, winning in a time of 2:49:29. In second position was Melissa Hinz (Team Hollard) in 3:06:26, and Nicola Fester (Team Cymot) in third position with 3:08:30.
