Support goes a long way

On Thursday, the Namdia Foundation announced a sponsorship of N$400 000 to Athletics Namibia (AN) for the Namibian team’s participation at the upcoming 2022 African Championships, taking place in Mauritius.
This is Namdia’s second sponsorship and commitment to AN as the foundation also last year offered a helping hand to the Namibian team that participated in the 2021 World Youth Championships.
The team secured top medals at this competition. The company also sponsored the Namibian Olympic team for their participation at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games as well as the women’s national rugby team for their first historic match against Zambia.
The company said this year, they started their ‘Sport Pillar’ with the sponsorship of middle-distance athlete David Dam when he participated at the ASA Athletics Grand Prix Continental Tour, where he secured third place and achieved his personal best time.
Namdia has made a commitment to ploughing back into the community, especially in the areas of sports, education and health, as was mentioned by CEO Kennedy Hamutenya.
At a press conference last week, he said they are proactively participating in tangible projects that have positive and direct impact on the lives of Namibians, especially young Namibians. This in order to lift Namibian youth out of poverty and to give them a chance to excel.
In a press release sent by Namdia, the company said the establishment and existence of the foundation demonstrates their long-term dedication to philanthropic aspirations.
I personally say thank you to Namdia. They have at last found something they can call their own – I mean, they are a company dealing in diamonds; some of these resources our people don’t ever get to see.
So, if Namdia can give back to the community through this resource, then I applaud them.
This should be further encouragement to other companies to follow suit. Corporate sponsorship is a form of marketing in which a company pays for the right to be associated with a project or programme and companies like Namdia are getting it right.
When you think of corporate sponsorship, your first thought is probably a large sports event with logos of companies like Nike and Gatorade everywhere. But this should really not be the case. It can be something as small but significant as nutritional items for athletes.
To the 15-member team travelling to Mauritius – you are only as good as your last performance, and in order to be good, you must compete with the best. So do your best.
As for Namdia, this is a good investment. It is always best to associate yourself with the best.
