Rhino protection in the lap of luxury
The Rhino Sanctuary Namibia, located about 60km from Windhoek will officially open its doors this September.Although they have already had guests at the lodge to experience the magnificent surroundings and to pay a visit to the white rhinos roaming the area, they are still busy with some final touches.
Manager Stefanus Prinsloo explained that the idea for Rhino Sanctuary Namibia came from the lodge owner, Tom Kjær who wanted to assist in protecting the rhinos against increasing poaching in Namibia.
The sanctuary was therefore borne to rescue white rhinos and to create a safe habitat for them.
Besides close collaboration with the surrounding private land owners, authorities and local communities, they have deployed anti-poaching teams with dogs to catch intruders and involve the authorities. To avoid corruption, the teams are changed regularly.
The current concept is that a person can donate to “adopt” a rhino for 10 years. The idea is that money which was donated will be spent on the care of the animal.
After signing up to be part of Rhino Sanctuary Namibia, you have the opportunity to visit the lodge and meet "your" rhino together with a guest of your choice. Together, you can experience rhinos in the wild personally, while enjoying unspoiled nature and open spaces.
At Rhino Sanctuary Namibia, you get the chance to disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with the beautiful nature and the wildlife of Namibia.
