More airlines to land at HKIA
As from Sunday more international flights will be landing at Husea Kutako International Airport, the Namibia Airports Company (NAC) announced.In a media statement, the NAC said that Eurowings Discover and Ethiopian Airlines are expanding their operations at Hosea Kutako International Airport (HKIA) as from Sunday, 27 March 2022.
This move comes thanks to a bilateral aviation agreement between Namibia and the states of Germany, South Africa, Angola and Ethiopia.”
The Lufthansa Group will increase the Eurowings Discover service to seven weekly flights throughout the year between Frankfurt and Windhoek. Between July and mid-September 2022, the offer could increase to ten weekly flights.
In addition, there will be new travel options between Windhoek and Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe for local travellers.
Besides the Lufthansa Group’s extended flights, Ethiopian Airlines (ET) will also increase its flights. HKIA's Sunday flight is scheduled to resume on 27 March 2022. In addition, five flights per week are to be operated by Ethiopian Airlines instead of four. ET flies between Addis Ababa and Windhoek on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Local airline Fly Namibia increased its flights from Windhoek to Cape Town from three to six weekly flights in March, while TAAG Angola added Saturday to its Monday and Thursday schedule.
HIKIA recorded a significant increase from 10 393 to 24 055 passengers in February 2022.
