Kids create art for bees

Children from 19 schools from across the country took part in the Bee Art competition this year.
This is the second year that Drien Setzkorn of the Montessori Children's House pre-primary school is hosting the competition in collaboration with the Beekeeping Association of Namibia.
"Last year we had far fewer schools involved. This year we were pleasantly surprised with the 240 works of art we received. We also saw that there is a need for a category for the age group three to four years. We have now also exhibited the entries, but will create a category for them in the future."
The competition's aim is to raise awareness about the protection of bees and about the essential role they play in nature.
"We have even received stories from schools about what they are doing to protect bees. One school started planting flowers while another taught the children to walk carefully and not step on jacaranda flowers and accidentally kill a bee."
Those who want to visit the exhibition of the children's works of art can visit the old church in Reuning Street in Klein Windhoek from 17:00 to 19:00 today (Friday). - [email protected]
