Almost sixty fuel stations belonging to the oil and fuel giants Shell and Engen in Namibia are currently for sale.This comes after the Vitol Emerald Bidco group bought Engen, including Engen Namibia.
Only Namibian companies could buy the 58 fuel stations that were recently advertised until 21 May. However, any interested buyers can submit offers now.
Vivo Energy Namibia announced in a full-page newspaper advertisement on Tuesday that 58 fuel stations are for sale nationwide. The places in Namibia where they are located are also included in the advertisement.
Vivo is an affiliate of the multinational energy and commodity company, Vitol.
Vivo Energy already announced in 2023 that the Petronas Group would sell its 74% share in Engen to Vivo Energy. Vivo Energy Namibia was established in October 2012 after the company took over Shell. It still serves as a franchise holder of 71 petrol stations nationwide.
Vivo Energy announced the international merger with Engen in February 2023, after which Namibia later followed.
The Namibian Competition Commission approved the merger in Namibia at the end of 2023 under certain conditions.
The merged group has 3 900 filling stations and more than two billion litres of storage capacity in 27 African countries.
Engen is the market leader in South Africa and has around 1 300 petrol stations in seven African countries.
Vivo Energy is an important retailer for pan-Africanism and a core distributor of fuel and lubricants for private and business customers with more than 2 600 petrol stations in 23 African countries under the Engen and Shell brands.
