Council weighs in on food stand fray
The Swakopmund municipality has addressed confusion over their position on mobile food kiosks in the town. This came after the recent council meeting which discussed their mobile food kiosks policy, to reorganise and ensure the smooth operation and monitoring of the mobile food kiosks in the town.
In the initial stages of implementing the policy, the council encountered opposition from some community members and mobile food kiosk operators. Due to this, all interested and affected stakeholders were invited to an advisory and information exchange.
The council noted that a final decision on this matter has not yet been taken, adding that they have not yet made a final decision on this matter and are actively engaged in a thorough public scoping process.
The aim of the public scoping process is to gather the views and opinions of stakeholders, particularly service providers and community members. To facilitate this open dialogue, two meetings were recently held in the council chambers on 25 and 26 October 2023.
