Eric's heavenly sounds hit the streets

"We are six members in the brass band and during the week - especially on Fridays - we split into smaller groups to play at different places in town. We're collecting money to record a CD so that we can buy ourselves decent clothes; clothes that are the same so everyone can see we belong to the Genesis Brass Band," Eric Nakasole (26), the band's trumpeter, said.
Eric's aunt taught him to play this instrument at the age of 15.
"My aunt learned from the master Jefta Goraseb and she continued to teach it to us through the generations. Wind instruments are in our blood."
Eric was part of the Hope Brass Band with his friends and together they released three CDs. "But then the six of us started the Genesis Brass Band. It's a band for young people and we now we want to release a CD."
Eric doesn't just play the trumpet although it is his favorite instrument.
"I love the sound and the trumpet is my passion. It's my instrument that I play when I'm sad, life is hard or if I'm down. It always makes me feel better. It's also my instrument when I'm happy and excited. The trumpet is simply my instrument through thick and thin. I am very passionate about music."
He also plays the guitar, drums and piano.
Genesis performs at funerals, weddings, birthday parties and all kinds of other events. "We would also like to work with other gospel artists. People are welcome to book us on 081 305 9228 for any occasion.
"My biggest dream is to teach other children and youth how to play an instrument. I think it will keep them off the streets and busy. It is very expensive to take classes at a college or so. I want to teach them and perhaps give them hope."
According to Eric, it is never too late to make a change. "Nothing can get you down. Nothing is impossible. Just be strong and keep praying. Keep believing in yourself and you will get there." – [email protected]
