Landi hits the high notes in Texas

The Namibian singer Landi Bonthuys has made a name for herself in America when her original song won a prize at the Texas Sounds International Country Music Awards.
"I am so proud to be able to carry Namibia's flag to the event. From now on it will be seen every year; I'll make sure to have it fly high at the event," Landi said.
During the competition, she sang old and new country songs and her own song "I Will Find You", which she released last year. She performed a country-rock version of the song during the event.
"I was so surprised [to win], there were really many beautiful original songs."
Twenty-one participants from 16 countries participated in the competition and winners were announced in twelve categories.
"It was an amazing experience to meet other singers around the world. Everyone got along so well. We forgot it's a competition!"
Landi has been singing since childhood and recorded her first country album at the age of 15 and soon after began writing her own songs.
"My plans include focusing more on song writing. I was incredibly inspired as we travelled through different states and cultures. I was also blessed to be able to sing a bit in Nashville," she said.
The competition took place in Marchall, Texas on 4 and 5 October, and Landi took the opportunity to do some touring afterwards. She will not return to Namibia until later this week. "Texas actually reminds me a lot of Namibia. The weather is warm, so I felt quite at home. It wasn't long before I 'ya'll'-ed just like a Texan," Landi joked.
"There is a lot to see and music is woven into their culture."
Landi says that she is excited to come back to Namibia and share all the stories with her family and friends. She is also very grateful for all the support she has received from supporters in Namibia and South Africa. – [email protected]
