Another epic Coastal Classic on the cards

This year's edition of the Coastal Classic will also serve as a qualifier for the Two Oceans Marathon.
FNB Namibia and Seawork Fish Processors - Walvis Bay will once again team up to host the fourth edition of the Coastal Classic, a combined MTB and road race competition. This annual event will take place over two action-packed days on September 21 and 22, 2024, in Swakopmund. It is also a qualifying race for the Two Oceans Marathon held annually in Cape Town, South Africa, confirmed Alfons Kiesewetter, owner of Cycles4U and the event's organizer.Kiesewetter highlighted the excitement of the event, stating, "The legendary 'Gravel Grinder' will feature heart-pounding MTB races, e-bike competitions, and challenging trail runs designed to push competitors to their limits on Saturday. Meanwhile, 'Road Rage' will offer electrifying road runs, e-biking, and cycle races for an unforgettable experience on Sunday."
"Don't miss out on this epic Namibian sporting event. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, this event has something for everyone, with distances catering to elites, enthusiasts, and weekend warriors. This multi-discipline event, sanctioned by the Namibian Cycling Federation (NCF), is quickly becoming the most popular cycling and running event on the coast. The 2023 event saw 446 participants compete over two days, with positive feedback from everyone involved," he added.
Kiesewetter also mentioned the charitable aspect of the event. Seawork Cares received N$20,720 from entry fees and donated prize money to promote education and school attendance in rural communities across Namibia. Additionally, sponsors donated N$16,000 to the Cycles4U trail fund, supporting coastal cycling. Last year, N$140,000 in prize money was distributed, with this year's prize pot set at N$150,000.
Exciting new routes and trails will be introduced for the 'Gravel Grinder' on Saturday, September 21. This event will feature an 80km, 40km, and 21km mountain bike gravel trail, along with trail runs over 21km, 10km, and 5km.
The 'Road Rage' event on Sunday, September 22, will again take place on the C28, just after the off-ramp to Goanikontes/Bosua Pass. It will include a 100km, 60km, and 30km road race. The road run distances will include an increased 42km route, in addition to the 15km and 5km options.
There will also be a category for e-bikes, allowing participants to showcase their skills and enjoy the event on both days.
