The northern town Oshakati recently played host to the highly anticipated annual Oshakati secondary school sport tournament 2024, a thrilling showcase of athleticism and sportsmanship.Spread across four iconic venues including the Oshakati Independence Stadium, Embandu Stadium, Unam soccer field and Oshakati soccer field, the tournament brought together students from various schools to compete in a diverse range of sporting disciplines.
From football to netball, volleyball to basketball, the tournament provided an exhilarating platform for young athletes to showcase their talents and passion for sports.
Among the participating schools, Gabriel Taapopi Secondary School (GT) emerged as the standout performers, dominating multiple sport codes and leaving their mark on the competition.
Football
In the fiercely contested boys’ soccer category, Gabriel Taapopi exhibited their prowess on the pitch, securing the coveted first prize. Oshela and Mweshy schools put up commendable performances, clinching second and third respectively.
The individual spotlight shone brightly on Kadila E from GT, who was hailed as the player of the tournament.
Girls' football
Haimbili Haufiku Secondary School emerged triumphant in the girls' soccer division with a display of skill and determination. Iipumbu Secondary School and King Nehale Secondary School showcased their talent, securing the second and third prizes.
Kavandje P from Haimbili Haufiku Secondary School was celebrated as the player of the tournament for outstanding performance and leadership.
Netball
Continuing their winning streak, Gabriel Taapopi dominated the netball court, clinching the top position in a series of thrilling matches. Shituwa Secondary School and Eheke Secondary School displayed admirable sportsmanship, securing the second and third prizes respectively.
Eva from Eheke Secondary School stood out as the player of the tournament.
Volleyball
In a showcase of agility and teamwork, Haudano Secondary School emerged victorious in the volleyball category, claiming the first prize. Ponhofi Secondary School put up a valiant effort, securing second place amid stiff competition.
Tukondjele Ndefelai (Haudano SS) was lauded as player of the tournament.
Basketball
Gabriel Taapopi extended their dominance to the basketball court, finishing first ahead of Ponhofi SS in a closely contested battle.
Verintert Jurry Halweendo from Ponhofi was recognized as the player of the tournament.
Overall best discipline
While competition was fierce on the field, it was Andimba TYT School that earned the prestigious title of overall most disciplined School.
