MVAF’s wheels on a roll

The Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVAF) is taking its community outreach programme to the Zambezi region.
Known as the MVAF on Wheels, the outreach programme aims to take road safety to the people and further instil the importance and value of road safety awareness within communities.
The weeklong programme starts today and continues until Saturday, and sees the MVAF’s team visit towns and villages across the region including Bukalo, Ngoma, Masokotwane, Sangwali, Mubiza and Kongola.
“While the Fund has strategically located service centres across the country, there are still a few underserved communities,” MVAF chief executive Rosalia Martins-Hausiku said.
She added that “the MVAF on Wheels programme allows the fund to take its offices to the people. The team will also assist the communities with claims, allowing clients in the region to query their claims, submit new claims and learn more about the benefits and services offered by the fund.”
The outreach features various initiatives with a focus on pedestrian, passenger and tyre safety.
Through these interventions, the fund interacts with school learners to ensure they have a safe journey to and from school and that they know how to use the road safely. In addition, the Fund also visits bus terminals and loading zones where they conduct passenger safety initiatives.
This allows the team to interact directly with passengers and public transport drivers and educate them on general road safety, vehicle roadworthiness and tyre safety among others.
The Fund invites members of these communities to participate in the outreach programme as it continues these engagements throughout the country. Parents, teachers, community leaders, and concerned citizens are urged to support and attend, as they can help make a significant difference in fostering a culture of road safety.
The outreach programme is facilitated by the Zambezi Regional Council.
